About Big Sandy Renewables, LLC

Big Sandy Renewables, LLC, is a Solar Energy facilities company that is based in the southern Appalachian Mountains.  We specialize in transforming reclaimed mine sites into clean energy producing solar energy farms, while creating employment opportunities for displaced coal miners .  It is our mission to bring positive change to the communities that have been affected by the decline of the coal industry, by creating jobs and clean, renewable energy for future generations.

Jed Weinberg

Chief Executive Officer

Jed Weinberg has over 25 years of executive-level business experience in the Central Appalachian region.  Most recently, Jed led the commercial operations of a private equity-backed natural gas operator, Core Appalachia, where he executed improvements in operations and gas marketing.  Core was sold to Diversified Gas & Oil PLC in 2018 for $183MM, delivering an outsized return in just two years. 


Prior to this, Jed was CEO of Clean Gas, Inc., where he grew the business from a small family firm to a large regional player, managing 426 wells producing 4.4 Mmcfe per day. In addition to growing the production through drilling and acquisitions, Jed developed, financed and oversaw the construction of a $20MM, 30-mile regional pipeline and a $[20]MM, [30]Mmcfe natural gas fractionation plant.  Jed was president of the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association from 2011 to 2016 and a director from 2002 to present. 


Jed is a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Pikeville and a board member of the Kentucky Historical Society Foundation.

Glenn David May II

Chief Operating Officer

Glenn David May II has a broad range of business leadership experience in the energy and real estate development sectors. 
One of Glenn’s company’s, Nova Inc. has been reclaiming surface mines for over 25 years.  In his role at Nova, Glenn has overseen the reclamation of thousands of acres of surface mining property, mitigating the adverse environmental effects while returning the land to a beneficial use. Glenn’s scope of work doesn’t end with reclaiming surface mines.  He has been directly involved with the development of large utility infrastructure programs. Started and completed several coal projects, from leasing to permitting to production. Nova works for both private and public sectors, including Federal, State, and local governments, public utilities and Energy companies.  
As a real estate developer Glenn has developed and completed build to suit projects for McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, Frito-Lay, Columbia Gas, and others.    
In Government, Glenn is currently a board member for both a public utility company and a multi-county development board.  That board plans, promotes, and coordinates programs for regional economies, social development, and infrastructure related needs, in a five county region.
Glenn holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with an emphasis on Real Estate from Eastern Kentucky University.

Patrick Worrall

Finance and Commercial Advisor

 Patrick is an accomplished business development and energy finance leader with broad strategy, capital markets and transaction execution experience. He has had a 15-year relationship with BSR CEO, Jed Weinberg, having worked on a number of transactions in the Appalachian region over that period.  His professional background includes project and acquisition finance, tax equity, commodities structuring, infrastructure private equity, restructuring and M&A.  Patrick currently leads the Asset Marketplace at LevelTen Energy, Inc., a cloud-based transaction platform, delivering efficient transaction services to renewable energy firms seeking to acquire and divest renewable energy projects.  Prior to joining LevelTen, Patrick led teams at Sunnova Energy Corp., Extol Energy (Riverstone Holding’s conventional power platform), Constellation Energy and Deutsche Bank. Patrick has closed energy and industrial debt and equity financings in excess of $25B, including multiple renewable energy successes. Patrick received his undergraduate degree in economics from University of Virginia and masters degree in business from Darden. He is an avid conservationist, having served on multiple boards and committees, most recently as an award-winning mentor for the CleanTech Open and as a mentor for Austin Technology Incubator at the University of Texas.

Neil Watlington

Development Advisor

Neil has over 25 years of experience in the energy and industrial sectors. Most recently he was Executive Director at NextEra Energy responsible for multiple renewable and energy storage projects in Canada and New England. Prior to joining NextEra, Neil served as Vice President, AES Puerto Rico, where he spearheaded local development of innovative traditional and renewable independent power projects and supported development and acquisition efforts in Central America and the Caribbean. He also served as Director of U.S. Operations for the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company, and was twice appointed by the Governor as citizen representative for electric sector reform in Puerto Rico. Neil graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Economics and the University of Puerto Rico School of Law with a JD and received a fellowship for Entrepreneurial Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
